Synopsis: Tells the story of a small town newspaper in the Texas panhandle, where editor/publisher Laurie Ezzell Brown is battling an oil bust, a global pandemic, and a growing distrust of the news as she tries to save her family’s paper, which is hanging on by a thread. She also struggles to come to terms with the increasing ugliness and division in her hometown and community, a place and people she loves despite her more liberal political views.
About the Envoy:
Heather is an Emmy-winning director/producer, and a Guggenheim, Sundance, and Fulbright fellow. Her documentaries have screened at festivals around the world, including SXSW and Tribeca, and have broadcast and streamed on Independent Lens, POV, Netflix, Amazon, and others. Her latest film, FOR THE RECORD, premiered at the Big Sky Documentary Film Festival and screened at DC/Dox, New Orleans Film Festival, and Rocky Mountain Women’s Film Festival, among others. The film had its streaming/broadcast premiere on PBS Reel South in 2024. Prior to filmmaking, Heather worked for an NGO in the Rwandan refugee camps after the genocide there.
