Synopsis: Angel City is a gripping docuseries that goes behind the scenes and onto the pitch of the groundbreaking Los Angeles-based professional women’s soccer team, Angel City Football Club. Pulling back the curtain on the origin story through the 2022 inaugural season of the female-founded and led team, the series reveals the passion and grit needed to build a franchise from scratch and blaze a bold trail in the world of professional sports.

 

Ep 1 – Brick by Brick
Backed by a host of celebrity investors from across the worlds of sports and entertainment, co-founders Natalie Portman, Kara Nortman, and Julie Uhrman begin the process of building Angel City Football Club from the ground up ahead of its first season.

 

Ep 2 – Running with the Angels
As players and staff deal with the pressure of living up to the club’s ambitious goals, Angel City kicks off their inaugural NWSL campaign at home in front of a vibrant, star-studded crowd.

 

Ep 3 -It’s Who We Are
Tensions mount as Angel City’s depth is challenged, all while the team fights for a playoff spot during the final weeks of their inaugural campaign. Meanwhile, the club’s co-founders turn their attention to the future.

 

About the Envoy:

Director/cinematographer Arlene Nelson, ASC DGA, excels in both large-scale multi-camera series and intimate documentaries. She directed HBO’s “Angel City,” documenting the inaugural season of Angel City Football Club, founded by Natalie Portman. Nelson made her directorial debut with the award-winning HBO trilogy “Naked States,” “Naked World,” and “Positively Naked,” with “Naked States” winning the Discovery Award at the AFI Film Festival. She recently directed Apple TV+’s “Gutsy” episode “Mothers and Daughters” and co-directed A&E’s “Secrets of Playboy,” which won the Critics Choice Real TV Award. As a cinematographer, she earned an Emmy nomination for “Troubadours.”
